Dominating the Narthex (near the entrance, at the rear of the Church) is the Font. It is placed near the door to remind us that Baptism is our entry into the Church. Hewn of the same green Swiss granite as the Altar, its likeness to the Altar links the two great Sacraments — Baptism and Holy Eucharist — as together being universally necessary to salvation.
Surmounting the Font is a cover topped by the Cross and Fish, symbolic of our Lord. Around the circumference of the cover appears the words of the sentence of Baptism, "I baptize thee in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost."
